New Zealand: Recognition Of Palestinian Countries To Be Announced At The United Nations

JAKARTA - New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon, said the decision to officially recognize the Palestinian state would be announced this weekend.

The day before, Britain, Australia, Canada and Portugal officially recognized Palestinian sovereignty.

Luxon mengatakan negara-negara itu sudah mengambil keputusan final dan mengumumkannya ke publik sebagai "fakta yang tak bisa diubah lagi."

"While we signal transparently that we are going through a process. We have had initial discussions and want to continue to monitor the situation this week," he said when asked by reporters why New Zealand seemed to be delaying making decisions.

He declined to comment on the cabinet's initial decision and confirmed the final decision would be made on Friday (26/9), before Foreign Minister Winston Peters announced it at the UN General Assembly in New York.

Luxon called the trial a "logical place" to announce the decision.

To date, Palestinian sovereignty has been recognized by 151 countries, including Russia and Indonesia. In 2024, the United States will veto the full membership of Palestine at the United Nations.
