JAKARTA - Russia believes a two-state solution is the only way to resolve the conflict in the Middle East, a Kremlin spokesman said on Monday.

Dmitry Peskov's comments were raised in response to questions about the announcement of Palestinian State recognition by a number of countries on Sunday.

"We remain committed to the fundamental resolutions of the UN Security Council and remain committed to international positions regarding the possibility of resolving the Palestinian-Israeli issue based on a two-state approach," Peskov said.

Britain, Canada, Australia, and Portugal announced the recognition of the Palestinian State on Sunday, referring to the alarming situation in the Gaza Strip, pushing for a peaceful solution to the two countries.

This move will be followed by a number of countries, including France, at the High Level Week of the UN General Assembly in New York, United States starting today.

"This remains our approach, and we believe that this is the only possible way to find a solution to a very complex conflict and has been going on for a long time, which may now be at the most acute and tragic stage in its history," Peskov said.

Palestinian authorities and Palestinian militant groups Hamas welcomed the announcement of the recognition of the Palestinian State.

Meanwhile, Israel reiterated its rejection of the confession, with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu saying "there will be no Palestinian State".
