JAKARTA - Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi revealed that President Prabowo Subianto is considering several figures to join the National Police Reform Committee, including former Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Mahfud MD.

"Regarding the police reform committee, it is indeed part of the government and the President's commitment. We are currently in the process of asking these figures to join," Prasetyo said at a press conference at the Presidential Palace Complex in Jakarta, as reported by ANTARA last Friday.

When asked if Mahfud MD was on the list of candidates, Prasetyo confirmed this. "He is one of them," he said briefly.

Prasetyo added that the government is still communicating with several figures deemed to have the capacity and integrity to push for comprehensive National Police reform.

Previously, Coordinating Minister for Law, Human Rights, Immigration, and Corrections Yusril Ihza Mahendra stated that President Prabowo was preparing a Presidential Decree (Keppres) establishing the committee. "If the Presidential Decree has been prepared, it will probably be inaugurated within the next day or two," said Yusril.

The National Conscience Movement (GNB) also pushed for the formation of the National Police Reform Committee on September 11, 2025. They proposed that the team be filled with important figures, including former National Police Chiefs, former members of the National Police Commission (Kompolnas), civil society representatives, and the National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM).

NAM figures present at the time included Sinta Nuriyah Wahid, Alissa Wahid, Quraish Shihab, Reverend Gomar Gultom, Father Franz Magnis Suseno, Komaruddin Hidayat, Bikku Dhanmasubho, and Laode M. Syarif. Alissa emphasized that the team should be led by the government, for example by the relevant minister, to ensure its effectiveness.
