Prabowo Speech At The United Nations, Ending The Trend Of Jokowi's Era Absence

JAKARTA The 80th General Assembly of the United Nations (UN) was held again in New York, United States, this September.

Carrying the theme "Better together: 80 years and more for peace, development and human rights", the opening session has started since September 9 at the United Nations Headquarters, Manhattan.

Indonesia will be present with President Prabowo Subianto as the head of the delegation marking the return of Indonesia's head of state at the UN forum after a 10-year absence.

This presence is in the spotlight, because in the last 16 years, only President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) has been relatively consistent in attending and giving speeches at the UN General Assembly.

Meanwhile, President Joko Widodo prefers to send representatives, both the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Vice President, so that Indonesia rarely appears through direct speech to the head of state.

Prabowo is scheduled to speak at the High-Level General Debate session on September 23, with the third serial number after US President Donald Trump and Brazilian President Luiz Inrypto Lula da Silva. This strategic position places Indonesia in the early ranks of world leaders who determine the direction of global discussion.

This year's trial is also a crucial moment related to Palestinian issues. A number of countries such as France, Canada, Australia, and Portugal have expressed their intention to recognize Palestinian sovereignty in this forum. Indonesia, which is consistently vocal in fighting for Palestine, is expected to make the issue a top priority in Prabowo's speech.

For Indonesia, the president's direct presence in the UN forum is not only related to diplomatic symbols, but also to voice the position of the nation in the midst of a global crisis starting from war, climate change, to the Palestinian independence struggle.

With Prabowo's appearance on the UN podium after a decade of vacuum, the public is looking forward to whether Indonesia will return to play an active diplomatic role at the highest level, such as the SBY era, as well as marking the difference in foreign leadership styles compared to Jokowi, who emphasized bilateral diplomacy and regional economic cooperation.

The 80th session of the UN General Assembly Meeting will begin on September 20-26. The theme of Better together: 80 years and more for peace, development and human rights, aims to renew global commitments to multilateralism, solidarity, and joint action for the community as well as planets.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as of September 11, noted that 145 of the total 193 member countries had confirmed their presence at the UN General Assembly Session. In detail, 137 countries were represented by heads of government countries, 5 vice presidents and 3 deputy prime ministers.
