Update On KLB Banggai Islands, 301 Patients Recovered, 34 Still Being Treated

JAKARTA After receiving reports of food safety incidents allegedly due to MBG consumption, the BGN team directly reviewed the affected beneficiaries who were still being treated at Trikora Salakan Hospital. The BGN team arrived at Salakan on Friday night (19/09).

Furthermore, the team accompanied by Trikora Hospital and the local government conducted a review of patients and discussions. As a further strategic step, the team of doctors from Dr. Wahidin Sudirohusodo was also brought in directly from Makassar on Saturday, (20/09).

As of Saturday (20/9), 335 patients have been treated since the first case came on Wednesday, September 17. The director of Trikora Hospital, Feldy Deki, said that of these 301 patients had recovered and were discharged, while 34 patients were still being treated for symptoms such as shortness of breath and cramps in the muscles of the chest, hands, and feet.

"Regarding these conditions, the hospital has provided maximum treatment by providing drugs and other medical treatment in accordance with the symptoms experienced by each victim," said Feldy in a press statement, Saturday.

To strengthen services, continued Feldy, Trikora Hospital has received additional medical personnel from Dr. Wahidin Sudirohusodo Makassar. On Saturday morning, four pediatricians and anesthesia arrived, as well as three nurses who were immediately dispatched to Salakan.

"This support is certainly very important and of high value for us, the families of patients and patients themselves, especially in increasing the psychological side. We appreciate the quick steps of all parties who have focused on handling this incident," he said.

Trikora Hospital and the joint medical team will continue to carry out intensive monitoring of patients who are still being treated. Evaluation and coordination with various parties are also continuously carried out to ensure maximum handling.

"We are trying to provide maximum treatment to all patients who are still being treated. We will also continue to coordinate with all relevant parties to provide updates on the patient's condition and further treatment if necessary," said Feldy.

Patient Conditions Stable

Meanwhile, representatives of the medical team of the Ministry of Health from RSUP dr. Wahidin, Rusmin, ensured that the condition of the patient who was still being treated was stable.

"Alhamdulillah, his condition is stable, not life-threatening. Alhamdulillah, it means that these children are in the recovery process," said Rusmin.

Rusmin added, from the results of the fess and anamnesis examination, there were also no signs of damage to nerves or serious symptoms that the public had feared.

"Because from the results of the fession and anamnesis examination, there is no examination that leads to suspected nerve damage causing seizures. And that is not a sign that we are worried about, as the public assumes.," he explained.

BGN focuses on moving quickly towards handling patients, coordinating with many parties, and since last night, BGN has received support from many parties, the Ministry of Health, the Government Communication Agency, the TNI, the Indonesian Air Force, the police, and local governments in handling patients.

In parallel, BGN is conducting a joint investigation with the police on the operationalization of the SPPG related to the food safety incident in the islands. We will immediately convey the results of the investigative audit.
