Mount Dukono Lontarkan Volcanic Ash Up To 800 Meters

TERNATE - Volcano Observation Post (PGA) Dukono, North Halmahera Regency, North Maluku, said Mount Dukono ejected volcanic ash up to 800 meters high from the top of the mountain.

Earlier at around 06.49 WIT with a column height of ash observed as high as 800 meters," said PGA Dukono officer Bambang Sugiono as reported by ANTARA, Saturday, September 20.

When the eruption of Mount Dukono, it was seen that the ash column was observed to be white to gray with thick intensity leaning towards the northeast.

He explained that the eruption of Mount Dukono was recorded on a seismogram with an amplitude of a maximum of 7 mm and a duration of 83.34 seconds.

"Currently, the condition of the volcano as high as 1,087 meters above sea level is still at Level II or Alert," he said.

Communities around Mount Dukono, visitors, and tourists are reminded not to do activities in the form of climbing or approaching the Maupang Warirang Crater within a 4 kilometer radius.

"Considering that eruptions with volcanic ash periodically occur and the spread of ash follows the direction and speed of the wind so that the area of the ash slope does not remain," he said.

He asked the community around Mount Dukono to always provide masks or nasal and mouth coverings to be used when needed to avoid the threat of volcanic ash in the respiratory system.

The day before, PGA Dukono Post Officers in North Halmahera Regency reported that white smoke came out of the top of Mount Dukono, not an eruption but the impact of rainfall so as to emit thick white smoke.

Bambang Sugiono said that visually, Mount Dukono at around 07.05 WIT, thick white smoke was observed as high as 800 meters, leaning towards the northwest.
