JAKARTA - The Purwakarta Regency Fire Department, West Java deployed three fire engines to extinguish the fire that burned dozens of souvenir kiosks in the Bungursari area, Purwakarta.

The Commander of the Purwakarta Fire Brigade Team Isma said the fire that hit dozens of semi-permanent buildings for souvenir kiosks in a row on Jalan Raya Cikampek-Purwakarta occurred on Saturday, early morning.

"We received the fire report at around 00.50 WIB. At that time, officers immediately rushed down to the location to extinguish the fire," he said, quoting Antara.

A total of three fire engines from Pos Bungursari and the Purwakarta Fire Department were dispatched to extinguish the fire.

However, when the officers arrived, the fire had grown so that officers had to work hard in extinguishing the fire.

In the process of extinguishing the fire, officers carried out insulation so that the fire did not continue to spread to other kiosks. However, the fire was quite large and the officers had difficulty getting water supply so that the isolation effort was somewhat hampered.

He admitted that the extinguishing process was quite difficult because of the conditions of the building that was flammable, with wood and bamboo materials.

Officers can extinguish the fire after the blackout process which lasts two to three hours.

"The cause is still not known with certainty, because it is still in the process of being investigated. But it is suspected that the fire occurred due to an electrical short circuit," he said.

Based on a report by the Purwakarta Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) officer, the fire resulted in one of the residents named Eva (46) being injured and having to be taken to the hospital.

Purwakarta Regent Saepul Bahri Binzein inspected the location of the fire on Saturday morning.

He expressed his condolences for the incident and promised to bear the costs of treating victims who were injured by the fire.

In addition, the Purwakarta Regency Government will build new buildings for souvenir traders who are victims of the fire.
