JAKARTA - Secretary General of the Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) Executive Board Saifullah Yusuf expressed his gratitude for the clarification of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) regarding the investigation of alleged corruption in determining quotas and organizing Hajj services at the Ministry of Religion in 2023-2024.

"Thank you to the KPK through the Acting Deputy for Enforcement and Execution Asep Guntur Rahayu who has made a fairly clear statement, namely stating that those who are called are individuals, not organizations," said Saifullah Yusuf in Jakarta, Antara, Friday, September 19.

According to him, the KPK's affirmation answered public speculation about the hajj quota case that had dragged the name of PBNU.

"We are grateful because the KPK has made a clear statement about efforts to uncover practices that violate the law against those who are guilty. PBNU is organizationally not involved. We support and appreciate the KPK," he said.

Saifullah Yusuf added that PBNU's support for the KPK was in line with President Prabowo Subianto's statement on several occasions.

Previously, the KPK emphasized that it did not target community organizations, including PBNU, but personally its members who served in the Ministry of Religion. "Although the person concerned is also a member or administrator of religious organizations, what is clear is that he is serving at the Ministry of Religion," said Asep Guntur Rahayu at the KPK's Red and White Building, Jakarta, Thursday (18/9) night.

Asep explained that the investigation into the alleged corruption case of the hajj quota was also tracing the alleged flow of funds. "We didn't target the organization, but the money ran away following the person. Where is the person, where are we working, now there we see it," he said.

The KPK began investigating allegations of corruption in determining the quota and implementation of the Hajj at the Ministry of Religion in 2023 '2024 on August 9, 2025, after asking for information from former Minister of Religion Yaqut Cholil Qoumas on August 7, 2025.

The KPK also said that it was communicating with the Supreme Audit Agency (BPK) of the Republic of Indonesia to calculate the state's losses in this case. On August 11, 2025, the KPK announced that the initial calculation of state losses reached more than Rp1 trillion and prevented three people from traveling abroad, one of which was former Minister of Religion Yaqut Cholil Qoumas.

In addition to being handled by the KPK, the Special Committee for Hajj Angkat DPR RI also found a number of irregularities in the implementation of the 2024 Hajj pilgrimage, especially the distribution of an additional quota of 20,000 from the Government of Saudi Arabia, which is divided equally by 10,000 for regular Hajj and 10,000 for special Hajj. The distribution is not in accordance with Article 64 of Law Number 8 of 2019 concerning the Implementation of Hajj and Umrah which regulates special hajj quotas of 8 percent and 92 percent for regular hajj quotas.
