Commission III Of The DPR Asks The Police To Reveal The Mastermind Of The Demonstration Riots In Jakarta

JAKARTA - Member of Commission III of the DPR, Gilang Dhielafararez asked the Indonesian Police (Polri) to reveal the intellectual actors behind the riots that occurred during the August 28 31 demonstration. He emphasized that the state must not lose to intellectual actors who are the masterminds of chaos.

This was conveyed by Gilang following the determination of 16 suspects by the Polda Metro Jaya in the case of vandalism and burning public facilities.

"Law enforcement should not only target the perpetrators of the field. The National Police must thoroughly investigate who is behind the scenes, who designed, instructed, or took advantage of this situation," Gilang told reporters, Thursday, September 18.

According to him, riots like the end of last August cannot be seen as just an event, especially the pattern of vandalism that occurs at various points indicating a planned scenario. Therefore, Gilang urged law enforcement officials to open up the possibility of structured provocations.

"We must not stop at individuals who may only be involved in the field. Instead, we must be more serious about dismantling the tissue or the brain behind all this," said the legislator from the Central Java II electoral district.

Gilang also emphasized that the constitution guarantees the right to express opinions in public. "But if someone infiltrates and directs it into anarchic action, then it is a crime that must be dealt with firmly," said Gilang.

Gilang also encouraged the government and law enforcement officials to strengthen the prevention system so that demonstrations would not be easily exploited by certain parties. He assessed that coordination between the education sector, community leaders, and youth organizations is important.

"This is a big lesson. The state must be present seriously, not only when taking action, but also in building a prevention system. Do not let the democratic space be damaged by those who have a covert agenda," concluded Gilang.

As is known, as many as 16 people were named suspects by the police for destroying public facilities during a chaotic demonstration some time ago in Jakarta. Dirreskrimum Polda Metro Jaya, Kombes Pol Wira Satya Triputra, said the perpetrators carried out the destruction using Molotov cocktails.

The perpetrators had the initials AS, MA, MHF, HH, ARP, SPU, DH, III, EJ, MTE, SW, JP, and a minor.

Meanwhile, the police have not disclosed the initials of the other three perpetrators because they are still under development. As a result of their actions, the perpetrators were suspected of Articles 187, 170, and 406 of the Criminal Code.
