JAKARTA - Italy's small island, Pantelleria, plans to change the name of its airport to honor the late fashion designer Giorgio Armani who often spends his summer vacation there.
Armani, who died earlier this month at the age of 91, has a large property on the island located between Sicily and Tunisia in the Mediterranean.
He used it as a resting place with family and friends when taking rarely-occurrency leave during August.
His house there consists of seven "dammusi", a traditional rural building built from white lava stone covered with domes and surrounded by more than 150 palm trees.

The Italian civil aviation organization, ENAC, said on Wednesday, September 17 they supported the proposed name change, which was submitted by the local council and had also received the blessing of Transport Minister Matteo Salvini.
ENAC president Pierluigi Di Palma said the name change was in line with their plans to upgrade airports and promote tourism to achievable islands via flights from Rome or Sicily airports, including Palermo.
