49 Residents Refuge To Wamena In The Aftermath Of Riots In Yalimo, The Average Non-Indigenous Papuans

JAYAWIJAYA - The police said as many as 49 people from Yalimo Regency fled to Wamena, Jayawijaya Regency, Papua Mountains.

Jayawijaya Deputy Chief of Police, Kompol I Wayan Laba, confirmed that there were dozens of refugees from Yalimo Regency who are currently in Wamena.

The refugees arrived using a car from Yalimo to Wamena. They arrived on Wednesday at around 02.20 WIT in the morning, "he said in Wamena, Wednesday was confiscated by Antara.

According to him, the arrival of the refugees was in Wamena, Jayawijaya Regency under the strict supervision of members of the Jayawijaya Police and Kodim 1702 Jayawijaya.

"We can convey from 49 refugees, 17 of whom are staying or taking temporary shelter at the Jayawijaya Police Headquarters. Meanwhile, the rest fled to relatives in Gang Nirwana," he said.

He explained that the refugees were mostly people of the archipelago or non-Indigenous Papuans (OAP) who had fled because there were currently riots in Elelim District, Yalimo Regency, Papua Mountains.

"After the refugees arrived at the Jayawijaya Police Headquarters this morning, they immediately received medical treatment or got food because they had to travel far from Elelim to Wamena," he said.

He added that in the refugee group there were six state civil servants (ASN) of the Papua Mountains Province Inspectorate who were carrying out their duties in Yalimo Regency.

"In the group, there were six ASNs from the Papua Mountains Province, who happened to be carrying out government duties in Yalimo Regency, then there was a riot. We can confirm that all refugees, including six ASN, are in good condition," he said.
