West Java Curhat Komeng Is Often Blamed If Jakarta Floods, This Is Pramono's Response

JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung responded to complaints by members of the Indonesian Regional Representative Council (DPD) Alfiansyah Komeng who said West Java was often blamed every time Jakarta was flooded.

Pramono said that one of the causes of the Jakarta flood was indeed caused by the delivery of water from upstream, especially the Bogor area, West Java.

"There are three sources of flooding. One, because of the flood sent from above, is it because the forest was cut down and so on, it happened, Then it was sent to Jakarta," said Pramono in the National Monument area, Central Jakarta, Wednesday, September 17.

Then, another factor that causes flooding in Jakarta is the increase in sea level, so that the northern coastal area experiences tidal waves. The next factor, the intensity of rain is quite high in the Jakarta area and causes local flooding.

"Local flooding experienced by Jakarta itself is because the waste is not cleaned and so on. Indeed, there are also floods caused by internal or the people of Jakarta themselves," said Pramono.

However, Pramono claims that the ranks of the DKI Provincial Government are always alert every time Jakarta is hit by floods and puddles, by activating pumps to cleaning waterways.

"Our experience is that the current three of them are relatively floods in Jakarta, it will definitely not take long because we have more than 600 pumps that we always stand by if there is a flood," he explained.

Previously, Komeng felt that West Java was often labeled the cause of Jakarta's flooding. In fact, according to him, the source of the flood problem in Jakarta was caused by the condition of the capital city which had minimal green open space.

He expressed this story at the DPD Committee II meeting with the Ministry of Forestry at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Tuesday, September 16.

"Yes, from West Java itself, actually, I just ask for protection from the problem of deforestation, the loss of forests, forest land such as in Ciamis, traditional forests are almost gone, and the problem is that sometimes in Jakarta, but we are always blamed," said Komeng.
