JAKARTA - The General Elections Commission (KPU) canceled the Indonesian KPU Decision Number 731 of 2025 concerning the Determination of the Requirement Document for Candidates for President and Vice President as Public Information Excepted by the KPU.
One of the contents of the decision is the matter of provisions regarding the 16 registration requirements for presidential and vice-presidential candidates as information that is excluded or cannot be disclosed to the public without the consent of the relevant parties, including diplomas.
"Finally, we institutionally decided to cancel the KPU's decision Number 731 of 2025 regarding the Determination of the Requirement Document for the Presidential and Vice Presidential Candidates as Public Information that was exempted by the KPU," said KPUMochammad Chair Afifuddin at a press conference at the KPU office, Jakarta, Tuesday, September 16.
With the revocation of the KPU's decision, information related to the presidential and vice presidential diplomas can now be disclosed by the public.
Afifuddin admitted that the KPU received a lot of input and criticism from the public regarding the decision.
KPU said Afif had coordinated with a number of related parties in making this decision, including the Central Information Commission (KPI).
"Furthermore, we treat the information and data, we follow the existing rules," he said.
Previously, the KPU issued Decree Number 731 of 2025 which kept 16 registration requirements for presidential and vice-presidential candidates secret as information that was excluded or could not be disclosed to the public without the approval of the relevant parties.
Dozens of these documents include e-KTP and birth certificates, Police Records Certificates (SKCK), health certificates from government hospitals appointed by the KPU, life history lists, short profiles, and track records of every prospective candidate, diploma, to State Administrators Wealth Reports (LHKPN).
KPU chairman Afifuddin explained the basis for the regulation for adjustments to Law Number 14 of 2008 concerning Public Information Disclosure (KIP). It states that personal data can only be accessed with the owner's approval.
"So, basically we only adjust to certain documents in the quotes of the rules to maintain confidentiality, for example related to medical records," said Afifuddin, Monday, September 15.
