JAKARTA - A fine-haired pet robot equipped with artificial intelligence is increasingly popular in Japan, as it develops its own personality and uniqueness depending on how it is "exaggerated".
AI pet robot Moflin made by Casa Computer Co. shows more than 4 million distinctive personality traits, recognizing people who often talk to him as the owner.
This robot gradually learns what its owner likes based on interactions such as caress and hugs.
"Development begins with women as the target of our audience. We envision a companion who can provide support even when you are facing problems at work or in your personal life," said Erina Ichikawa, the team leader who developed Moflin, quoted from Kyodo News September 8.
The project gained momentum after an engineer from the company brought a prototype robot to describe the cuteness of small animals.
Casio, which launched the robots in November, exceeded its target and sold more than 7,000 units in March.
This AI pet robot is very popular among women in their late 30s and 40s, according to the company.
Furthermore, Ichikawa noted how some people also took her on a holiday.
"People can feel that their Moflin is different from other Moflin, because these robots, such as animals, display individual personalities and emotions, in addition to growing and having varying sleep cycles," Ichikawa explained.
