JAKARTA - A warm atmosphere was felt when President Prabowo Subianto tidied up a student at the Senior High School (SRMA) 10 South Jakarta, Thursday 11 September.

With a friendly smile, the President greeted and chatted with the students who had previously greeted him with a passionate chant.

"Thank you everyone, study well," said President Prabowo as quoted by ANTARA.

During the visit, the President was accompanied by Minister of Social Affairs Saifullah Yusuf and Deputy Minister of Social Affairs Agus Jabo Priyono and Cabinet Secretary Lt. Col. Teddy Indrawijaya. They were greeted with various appearances, ranging from the Betawi Kembang Jatoh dance to a choir of students who had performed at the State Palace.

After interacting with students, the President reviewed sports facilities, classrooms, dormitories and dining rooms. In one of the dormitory rooms, the President took the time to write a motivational message in one of the students' books.

"Learn good, respect teachers. Love father and mother. Be diligent in praying, always be polite with friends," said the President.

After reviewing school facilities, the President shared his personal experience while studying at the military academy. He compared the condition of the dormitory at that time to the People's School dormitory which he thought was much better.

"The beds are good. Every three students, three students, one bathroom. I used to be in the military academy, we were 60 people, the bathroom was like that, wearing a dipper," he said.

The President emphasized that the People's School is here to provide new opportunities for children from poor families.

"Alhamdulillah, People's School is a place for children who drop out of school, they can go to school. Children who previously may feel low because their parents have a very difficult life, we pull them out. We give them the best environment so that they are confident and they get the best education we can provide, "he said.

One of the students, Juniar Diah Afifah (16) from Setiabudi, South Jakarta, admitted that he was happy to meet the President in person.

"Earlier I studied in class, then there was an announcement that the President wanted to come, I was surprised I didn't believe it. But I'm really happy to meet the President, because it's the first time I've met him," said Diah.

Through the People's School, the government is committed to paving the way for every child from a poor family to get quality education so that it can break the transmission of poverty.
