JAKARTA Qatar took legal steps in response to Israeli attacks on its territory.
"Doha has begun to take all necessary legal steps against Israeli aggression," said Foreign Minister Sultan bin Saad Al-Muraikhi at a meeting of the eighth ministerial level of the Strategic Dialogue of the Russia-State Cooperation Council in Sochi.
He said Qatar would continue, along with its strategic partners, promote justice and maintain international legitimacy that protects people's rights to determining their own destiny and dignity.
"We have been the target of Israeli aggression that claimed the lives of innocent people who violated international norms," continued Al-Muraikhi.
He warned Israel's actions reflect arrogance and carelessness and undermine efforts to resolve disputes peacefully.
Qatar considers Israel fully responsible for rising tensions in the region, accusing Benjamin Netanyahu's administration of destabilizing the Middle East.
His remarks came a day after Qatar sent a letter to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and Sangjin Kim, South Korea's interim envoy who currently leads the Security Council, condemning the Israeli attacks on Doha as "dangerous acts" and "criminals" that violate international law.
The UN Security Council is scheduled to convene on Thursday evening to discuss the situation after its emergency meeting was postponed from Wednesday at Qatar's request to allow Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani to attend.
