JAKARTA - The government welcomes the commitment of platform provider Roblox to support child protection efforts in the digital space. Roblox has submitted an official letter to the Indonesian Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs to affirm its commitment to protecting children in the digital space.
"We appreciate Roblox's move to affirm their willingness to adapt to Indonesian regulations," said Indonesian Minister of Communications and Digital Affairs Meutya Hafid in a press statement in Jakarta, Antara, Thursday, September 11.
"This shows that constructive dialogue can lead to concrete steps to protect Indonesian children while strengthening the digital creative industry ecosystem," he added.
In a letter submitted following a meeting of representatives with the Indonesian Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs in August 2025, Roblox stated his readiness to cooperate with the Indonesia Game Rating System (IGRS) in reviewing game classification and making adjustments when needed.
In addition to conveying his commitment to complying with the regulations in force in Indonesia, Roblox in his letter shared the results of a study on the economic impact that highlighted the company's contribution to the growth of local game developers in Indonesia.
The government is committed to building open dialogue with global digital platform providers so that Indonesia can not only become a market, but also become a center for growth in digital talent and a safe, inclusive, and productive online space for the community.
Following concerns about the negative impact of Roblox's use, the government asked companies providing the platform to comply with applicable regulations in Indonesia.
In this case, Roblox was asked to comply with Government Regulation Number 17 of 2025 concerning Governance for the Implementation of Electronic Systems in Child Protection or PP Tunas and the Content Moderation Compliance System (SAMAN).
Meutya previously said that Roblox had expressed a willingness to report platform operations to the Indonesian Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs, which would carry out surveillance to ensure companies comply with applicable regulations.
"We will periodically call again, then we decide whether this needs to be blocked, or needs stricter age restrictions, or thank God if within 1-2 months Roblox makes thorough improvements to services in Indonesia," he said.
