JAKARTA - A 29-year-old man was arrested in Woodlands, Singapore, after being caught carrying more than 1,400 cigarettes without excise.
Citing Asia One, Thursday 11 September, Singapore Customs reported that the Indian national was arrested during an action operation at Woodlands Terrace on Tuesday 9 September.
In an operation targeting the back alleys of the industrial area, Singapore Customs officers saw a man move a black trash bag between two trucks bearing the Singapore logo.
Officers then conducted an inspection and found 122 non-excise cigarettes in the first truck.
Around 1,323 meters and 16 packs of unexcise cigarettes were also found in the second truck.
After being totaled, Singapore Customs and Excise revealed that in this operation, his party confiscated 1,445 meters and 16 packs of cigarettes without import duties and excise duty.
The total import duty and Goods and Services Tax (GST) that should have been paid from the evidence amounted to 156,693 Singapore dollars.
