JAKARTA - Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin was appointed by President Prabowo Subianto as Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs (Menko Polkam). Sjafria admitted that he would serve as Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs for several months.

This was revealed by Sjafrie after chairing the inaugural meeting behind closed doors with the Deputy Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Lodewijk F. Paulus, Secretary of the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Lt. Gen. M. Hasan, and deputy of the Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal and Security Affairs.

"I gave the first briefing to the main officials who over the next few months, they will help me as Coordinating Minister for Politics and Security ad interim for several months," said Sjafrie at the office of the Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal and Security Affairs, Central Jakarta, Tuesday, September 9.

In line with that, Sjafrie will have offices in turn at the offices of the Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal and Security Affairs and the Ministry of Defense. Sjafrie is also still carrying out his duties as the Daily Chair of the National Defense Council, as well as the Head of the Forest Area Control Steering Team.

Sjafrie then spoke about the authority given by Prabowo during his tenure as Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs. Sjafrie will carry out the ministry's efficient, effective duties, so that all work can run smoothly.

"That's why I came here to give a briefing. My directive is the revitalization of the organization at the Coordinating Ministry of Police," said Sjafrie.

Sjafri emphasized that he would increase the role, duties, and functions of the deputy of the Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal and Security Affairs. Thus, it is the deputies who will carry out the task of coordinating and synchronizing with the relevant ministries and institutions.

"I prioritize that matters relating to the problems of ministries and institutions should be resolved within ministries and institutions," said Sjafrie.

"However, if there are things that require a coordination bridge, synchronization between ministries and institutions, the Polkam Coordinating Ministry will carry out its duties while following the applicable developments," he added.
