Government Promises To Prioritize Restorative Justice To Prisoners Of Riot Demonstration

JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Law, Human Rights, Immigration and Corrections (Kumham Imipas) Yusril Ihza Mahendra ensured that the government prioritized restorative justice efforts to child prisoners who were arrested during the demonstration at the end of August 2025.

Yusril said the government prioritizes the aspects of education and guidance for child prisoners compared to the aspect of punishment.

"So there is an opportunity for the government to also hold deliberations with families, with victims, prioritize restorative justices so that justice is truly created in our country," said Yusril as quoted by ANTARA, Monday, September 8.

Although Yusril could not detail one by one, Yusril did not deny that the children who were detained were also carried out the investigation and investigation process.

However, the government will continue to prioritize restorative justice in solving problems involving these children.

Yusril said the same thing would also be applied to prisoners who are students, but as long as they only intend to hold demonstrations in voicing aspirations.

"But for those who have an evil intention or the Minister of Youth and Sports to commit a crime, we will really follow up until the case is transferred to court," he said.

Previously, the Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI) supervised the investigation process by Polda Metro Jaya against hundreds of children who were involved in demonstrations in front of the DPR/MPR/DPD Building.

KPAI Commissioner Mikha Maria said that his party coordinated with the Police and the DKI Jakarta Empowerment, Child Protection and Population Control (PPAPP) Office under the supervision.

"We carried out surveillance through coordination with the police, the PPAPP Service and spoke directly with the children who were arrested," said mikhala when contacted in Jakarta, Tuesday (26/8).

His party wanted to ensure that the rights of the children who were secured by the Police were fulfilled.

"From KPAI it is certain (to guarantee the fulfillment of children's rights). I have been at Polda Metro Jaya from 07.30 WIB until now. Waiting for the children who are being investigated by the police," he said.
