Joint officers from the Serang Police Satreskrim and the Food Task Force uncovered the fraudulent practice of mixing rice which is suspected to have been operating for more than 10 years at a rice mill factory in Pamarayan District, Serang Regency, Banten.
The Head of the Serang Resort Police (Kapolres), AKBP Condro Sasongko, said that the disclosure of this case was a follow-up to information from the public who were suspicious of activities at the factory.
During the raid, officers secured the factory owner with the initials SU (46) along with evidence in the form of 10 tons of unsuitable rice for consumption and 94 sacks of adulterated rice ready for distribution.
"The illegal business carried out by the SU suspect has been going on for more than 10 years," he said in Serang, Antara, Sunday, September 7.
He explained that the mode used by the suspect was to buy rice from the rest of the celebration from the community for Rp. 10,000 per kilogram.
The dirty and jagged rice was then mixed with premium rice using a pangolin machine to manipulate the appearance.
"After being polished, the mixed rice is packaged using well-known brand sacks such as Ramos, Rojo Lele, and others without permission," he said.
The illegal product was then sold by the suspect at his shop in Bandung District, Serang Regency, at a price of Rp. 200,000 per package of 25 kg. From each sack sold, the suspect made a profit of Rp. 98,200.
In addition to securing tens of tons of rice, the police also confiscated other evidence, including hundreds of empty sacks of various brands, one heller machine, and one pickup car used for operations.
