Police Facilitate Return Of Ahmad Sahroni's Goods Which Were Sentenced To Masses

North Jakarta Metro Police mediated the return of a number of personal belongings belonging to a member of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Ahmad Sahroni, who was previously looted by the mob during the riots at his residence, Tanjung Priok. The items were handed over to the family represented by Achmad Winarso.

"The items were previously owned by Ahmad Sahroni's personal property which was looted by the community at the time of the incident at his home," said Head of Public Relations of the North Jakarta Metro Police, Ipda Maryati Jonggi, Friday, September 5, as quoted by ANTARA.

He added, thanks to good communication between the police, family, and residents, some of the goods had been returned voluntarily.

"The North Jakarta Metro Police appreciates the cooperative attitude of the community and affirms its commitment to maintaining security, order, and building good synergies between residents and the police and the families of the victims," he said.

The head of the Kebon Bawang LMK, Win, also emphasized that Ahmad Sahroni's family respects the good intentions of the community.

"The family also emphasized that they will not take legal action for residents who have the awareness to hand over goods through the North Jakarta Metro Police or directly to their families," he said.

Even so, the handling of the case of looting Sahroni's house was still transferred by the North Jakarta Metro Police to Polda Metro Jaya for further processing.

As is known, the riots on Saturday (30/8) began with a demonstration in front of Ahmad Sahroni's house. The action that initially took place outside the fence turned chaotic when the masses started throwing houses with hard objects to damage glass and buildings.

The situation got out of control when the crowd broke into the fence and entered the house. A number of valuables, important documents, and cash were reported missing. The luxury car parked in the garage also did not escape the destruction.
