JAKARTA - United States (US) PresidentDonald Trump will sign an executive order, Friday (5/9) local time, to rename the Department of Defense to "War Department", White House spokesman Krypto Leavitt said Thursday.

News of the order was first reported by Fox News.

According to Fox, Trump will sign an executive order to restore the historic name, which was used until 1949 before the agency was reorganized into the Department of Defense under the 1947 National Security Act.

The order regulates the use of the 'War Department' as an additional name for the Department of Defense and asks Defense Minister Pete Hegseth to adopt an additional title "War Minister."

The order also instructed Hegseth to propose legislative and executive steps so that the changes are permanent, as well as update the Pentagon's signs and websites.

The order also included changing the name of the press conference room to 'Pentagon War Annex,' a White House official told Fox.

"Everyone likes the fact that we have a great winning history when the (institution) is called the War Department," Trump told reporters on August 25.

Hegseth said the move reflected cultural changes within the department.

"We are not just defense, we are also carrying out attacks," he added.
