Golkar Appreciates President Prabowo's Steps To Reduce The Escalation Of Demonstration

JAKARTA - The general chairman of the Golkar Party, Bahlil Lahadalia, praised President Prabowo Subianto's steps in reducing the escalation of demonstrations which in the last few days have spread to a number of areas and led to chaos.

According to Bahlil, the President's move shows firmness and alignment with the people. He sees, in a democratic country, demonstrations are a necessity.

"But the President proved that the state is present not only with a security approach, but also through dialogue with all elements of the nation," said Bahlil.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Chairperson of Golkar, Idrus Marham, added that the President's attitude should be appreciated because it prioritizes national unity.

What President Prabowo did was the right way. He is firm, but also fair and pays attention to the aspirations of the people. From the start, he had warned that this country must be guarded together. We are one big house called Indonesia," said Idrus, Thursday, September 4.

Previously, President Prabowo invited 16 Islamic community organizations (ormas) to his residence in Hambalang, West Java, last weekend.

The meeting, which was also attended by the leaders of the MPR, DPR, DPD, and the general chairman of the political party, emphasized the government's commitment to respecting freedom of expression, but rejecting anarchic actions.

Idrus assessed that the President's move to order the National Police to process the guilty officers showed the courage to enforce the law indiscriminately.

"If the people are wrong, they are processed. If the officers are wrong, they must also be processed. No one is above the law. That is the form of a state of law," he said.

The President's attitude also received a response from Islamic mass organizations. The general chairman of PBNU, Yahya Cholil Staquf, said that the invitation to Hambalang showed the government's openness. Meanwhile, the General Chairperson of PP Muhammadiyah, Haedar Nashir, assessed that dialogue is the key to maintaining national stability.

"The president wants to hear. People's aspirations should not be seen as threats, but should be placed as input for the improvement of the nation," said Haedar.
