The East Nusa Tenggara Regional Police revealed approximately 180 thousand liters of diesel fuel (BBM) which were sold illegally without official documents in the waters of Labuan Bajo.
NTT Police Chief Inspector General Rudi Darmoko said the success of his members in uncovering illegal fuel sales on August 2 was a form of commitment from the NTT Police.
"This success is a form of the NTT Police's commitment to maintaining the availability and distribution of subsidized fuel, as well as protecting the economy of the people in NTT," he said at a press conference at the NTT Police Headquarters, Antara, Wednesday, September 3.
Rudi added that this effort was a firm step to close the space for individuals who were trying to seek personal gain by going against the law.
"We will take firm action against various fuel abuses, including those that have been successfully disclosed and released today," he said.
The NTT Police Chief also said that this disclosure was a follow-up to Law Number 22 of 2001 concerning Oil and Gas, as well as Law Number 6 of 2023 concerning Stipulation of Government in Lieu of Law Number 2 of 2022 concerning Job Creation.
The NTT Regional Police are committed to keeping subsidized fuel on target, while ensuring there is no room for those who try to abuse it.
He emphasized that this case is a lesson as well as a strong warning for those who try to play games with the distribution of subsidized fuel.
"We emphasize that the NTT Police will not hesitate to take action against anyone who is proven to have abused subsidized fuel. This effort is a form of commitment to protect the people of NTT so as not to be harmed by the actions of a handful of individuals," he said.
Inspector General Rudi Darmoko also invited all elements of society to participate in supervision. According to him, the distribution of subsidized fuel must be monitored together so that it is no longer used by irresponsible parties.
"Our channel is wide, and supervision is full of challenges," he said.
