JAKARTA - Malaysian authorities summoned TikTok and Meta officials to question the slow process carried out by the management of the two applications in attracting hoax and immoral content that violates the law in the neighboring country.
Malaysian Communication Minister Fahmi Fadzil said TikTok and Meta leaders would be clarified at the Malaysian Royal Police Headquarters (PDRM), Bukit Aman, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, September 4, 2025.
One of the content in question is a recent viral upload involving someone claiming to be a pathologist in an account called Dato Prof. Dr. Tun Ku Iskandar, who claimed to have participated in the autopsy process of Malaysian student Zara Qairina Mahathir, whose death was considered odd and viral.
"TikTok is very slow in providing information to PDRM, so I have to call TikTok CEO Shou Zi Schw to let him know, this is a crime that is being committed and your organization is very slow," Malaysian Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil said as quoted by ANTARA from BERNAMA, Tuesday, September 2.
He emphasized that the Malaysian government cannot allow such inaction.
Therefore, TikTok officials will be summoned to Bukit Aman, in a meeting that will be attended by the Head of PDRM Inspector General of Police Datuk Series Mohd Khalid Ismail and Attorney General Tan Sri Mohd Dusuki.

In addition to TikTok, Fahmi said Meta Platforms Inc (Meta), Facebook's parent company, will also be called to explain the spread of immoral content on its platform.
"We see these platforms not taking this issue seriously, so the dialogue process will continue, and we will emphasize that Malaysian law applies to them and they must comply. We will summon all platforms," he stressed.
