16 Demonstrators Of The Ternate City DPRD Office Arrested By Police Returned Today

The Ternate Police in North Maluku (Malut) finally repatriated as many as 16 protesters who ended in chaos at the Ternate City DPRD Office.

Head of Public Relations of the Ternate Police, AKP Umar Kombong, his party has returned as many as 16 demonstrators to their respective homes today.

"Today, the 16 demonstrators have been sent home. Earlier at around 14.30 WIT they were sent home," said AKP Umar Kombong when contacted, Tuesday, by Antara.

It is known that the action on Monday, demonstrations from elements of the community and students named themselves Cipayung North Maluku and Khairun University (Unkhair) Ternate were held at the Ternate City DPRD Office. They demanded the dissolution of the DPR and a number of other policies that must be more in favor of the people.

At around 14.30 WIT, the demonstration, which was initially peaceful, became chaotic when the crowd tried to break into the Ternate City DPRD Office.

A few moments later the situation became conducive again, but at around 17.15 o'clock the clashes occurred again, stone rain from the masses to the police in the action. One by one the masses of demonstrators were then secured by the police to the Ternate Police Headquarters.

The masses who were repatriated were reminded not to take any more anarchic actions, and orderly, in conveying their aspirations in the future.

The demonstration of thousands of students who are members of the Cipayung Malut organization and the Khairun University (Unkhair) Ternate in front of the Ternate City DPRD office, Monday, ended in chaos.

Clashes between students and police officers were inevitable, even the police were forced to fire tear gas to disperse the crowd.

The action, which started in the morning before noon, took place in an orderly manner at the beginning. However, at around 14.00 WIT, the situation began to heat up when thousands of people from the north tried to get closer to the DPRD building.

Police officers who are already on standby with complete equipment form barricades to dispel the crowd.

The student's efforts to break through the barricades caused even harder push. The uncontrollable condition made the police release a water cannon spray, then fired tear gas into the crowd. Instantly, the masses rushed to the north to the alleys of residential areas.

The police managed to push the masses back to the Makugawene Tugu area, the T-junction of Kalumata Puncak Village. Around that location, the authorities again built barricades to anticipate student resistance.
