Foreign Minister Sugiono Appreciates China's Global Governance Initiative (CGI)

JAKARTA - Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono appreciated the Global Governance Initiative (CGI) delivered by Chinese President Xi Jinping while attending the 25th Summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) State Head Council in Tinjing, China on Monday.

In his speech at the SCO Plus Meeting Session, Foreign Minister Sugiono appreciated CGI, which was carried by China as an instrument in realizing mutual prosperity.

"To achieve development, we need the principles contained in GGI, especially respect for international law," he quoted the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs as saying, Tuesday, September 2.

"The situation in Gaza shows how the principles of sovereignty, international law, and human values are often ignored. Indonesia emphasizes the importance of upholding these values," said Foreign Minister Sugiono.

Chinese President Xi Jinping proposed CGI while chairing the SCO Plus meeting on Monday, inviting countries to work together for a fairer and equal global governance system, quoted from the site The National Committee of The Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference.

President Xi highlighted five GGI principles; Upholding equality of sovereignty, Obeying international law rules; Practice multilateralism; Advocating a people-centric approach; Focus on concrete actions.

On the sidelines of following SCO SKTT, Foreign Minister Sugiono also held a bilateral meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi. On that occasion, Foreign Minister Sugiono conveyed an official letter from President Prabowo Subianto to President Xi Jinping.

"President Prabowo has entrusted warm greetings and a commitment to strengthen bilateral cooperation with China," said the Indonesian Foreign Minister.

"Chinese is the largest trading partner and one of the main investors in Indonesia. This good relationship must continue to be maintained, based on mutual respect and mutual benefit," he said.
