Minister Of Human Rights: Strict Enforcement Of Anarchic Actions Remains A Guide To Human Rights

JAKARTA - Human Rights Minister (HAM) Natalius Pigai said the firm action ordered by President Prabowo Subianto in dealing with anarchist actions was carried out while still guided by human rights principles.

In this case, Minister Pigai asked state officials to take steps to handle demonstrations by avoiding excessive use of force.

"Strict action as stated by the President that must be guided by the applicable laws and international human rights standards," Pigai said as quoted by ANTARA, Monday, September 1.

Pigai also highlighted the open press statement made by President Prabowo on Sunday (31/8). The President referred to international human rights documents regulated in the International Conference on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR).

According to him, the President's statement emphasized the attitude of the state that respects human rights aspects. The state, said Pigai, fully respects the freedom of opinion and aspirations of its citizens.

"The state also respects the widest right to peaceful assembly," he added.

Minister Pigai also invited all levels of society to convey their aspirations peacefully, without breaking the law, and always adhere to human rights principles.

He also believes that President Prabowo, through his government programs, is taking steps to transform the nation aimed at social justice.

Pigai said the Ministry of Human Rights opened a complaint service regarding the development of the situation and dynamics in the community. Complaints can be submitted through call center service 150145 at 08.00'21.00 WIB.

In addition, Pigai said that his party had also formed a team to monitor the current conditions to ensure the protection of human rights, especially the handling and fulfillment of rights for victims of death, injuries, and participants of detained demonstrations.

"Especially for the detained victims, the Ministry of Human Rights will coordinate further with the police so that the handling is in accordance with human rights principles and standards," said Pigai.
