Army Chief Of Staff: TNI Will Back Up Police In Accordance With Law

Army Chief of Staff General TNI Maruli Simanjuntak said his party would help the police to secure demonstrations in all regions in the country if requested for assistance in accordance with the law. Maruli said the TNI would keep the national situation conducive.

This was said by Maruli in response to the situation in Jakarta, which had started to become conducive but shifted to a number of areas.

"There is no problem, everything is going on, if you ask about it like that, it was conveyed earlier that this is the duty of the police, we help, so if you want to ask this, it is better to go there," said Maruli at the DPR building, Monday, September 1.

"We will help, we must, we will back up according to the applicable law," he continued.

Maruli said TNI soldiers would be centered in Jakarta and a number of vulnerable areas. The TNI, he said, would help the Police if requested.

"Yes, everywhere we have troops, how will the assistance system be requested by the police," he said.

It is known that the escalation of demonstrations in a number of areas in Indonesia is still quite high. Such as in Jakarta, Bandung, Yogyakarta, Surabaya and Makassar.
