Police Secure Man Allegedly Trying To Burn At Gas Station Near Police Headquarters

JAKARTA - A suspicious action by a man at a public gas station (SPBU) located not far from the National Police Headquarters, South Jakarta, on Saturday, August 30, was thwarted by the police.

The incident was caught on a gas station's CCTV camera. In the footage, a man can be seen walking around entering the gas station area. He had time to pause while lighting a cigarette and paying attention to the surrounding conditions. After that, the man moved near a point in the gas station area.

Not long after, the perpetrator was seen squatting and trying to burn an object at the location. The fire started to burn, but the action did not last long. After carrying out the action, the man tried to leave the gas station area.

However, the whereabouts of the perpetrators were immediately known by members of the police who were on guard around the location. Officers immediately moved quickly to secure the perpetrators before a larger fire broke out. He was then taken to the National Police Headquarters for an intensive examination.

South Jakarta Metro Police Chief, Kombes Pol. Nicolas Ary Lilipaly, confirmed the burning attempt. "Secured by the National Police Headquarters," he said when confirmed, Saturday night.

However, Nicolas has not detailed further about the identity of the perpetrator or the motive behind his actions. He only emphasized that the handling of this case was entirely under the authority of the National Police Headquarters.

Until now, the police are still conducting an investigation to reveal the motives of the perpetrators and to ascertain whether there is a connection with other parties in the incident. The police also ensure that security around the National Police Headquarters is maintained after this incident.
