Mass Action Continues, NTB DPRD Building Burned

JAKARTA - The West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) DPRD building was burned this afternoon. The crowd also stormed the NTB Police to protest against the repressive actions of Brimob members that caused the death of ojol driver Affan Kurniawan.

Judging from the Instagram account @insidelombok, the fire broke out in the NTB DPRD building. Seen thick black smoke rising on Saturday, August 30.

Previously, the burning of the DPRD building also occurred in Makassar, South Sulawesi. Three people were reported dead.

In other areas, the masses damaged the Surakarta DPRD office, Central Java. The mass anger also targeted public facilities in Jakarta, including the burning of 7 Transjakarta bus stops.

The Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) reminded the public to stop anarchic demonstrations that caused damage and riots in the public.

The Head of Information and Communication of the MUI Leadership Council, Masduki Baidlowi, appealed to the demonstrators who are still in the field to return to their respective homes.

"Demo is the right of citizens, but when it has caused damage, unrest, and difficulties to the public, I think it must be stopped, therefore, we also urge the demonstrators to return to their respective homes and do not cause difficulties for other communities," he said, Friday, August 29.

According to him, demonstrations that cause riots will also affect people's daily activities, especially for the lower middle class who still have to earn a living.

"And I think it's important for the community (to earn a living), especially the people below, so that in this way the demonstration please stop, don't cause anarchy and damage, that's an appeal from MUI," he said.
