JAKARTA - Spokesperson for the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Budi Prasetyo said the two detention houses occupied by corruption suspects were overcapacity. The isolation room is now being used as an additional cell.
"The ideal capacity of the KPK detention centers is K4 and C1 for 51 people, while currently there are 57 detainees, so they use the isolation room as an addition," Budi told reporters in a written statement quoted on Friday, August 29.
Despite being overcapacity, Budi said, the management of detention centers is still in accordance with standards. Prisoners' rights remain a priority for the anti-corruption commission.
"We make sure that the management remains in accordance with the provisions and protects the basic rights of detainees," he said.
In addition, the facilities inside the detention center are also a concern of the KPK. "At the KPK Detention Center, there are also areas and tools for sports and medical examinations by doctors," said Budi.
"This is to keep the prisoners in good health and fit so that they can follow the legal process properly," he concluded.
