WEST JAVA - West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi has banned the use and sale of "brong" or substandard exhausts to address public concerns about the noise produced by motor vehicle exhausts.
"To all West Java residents, effective today we are issuing a circular prohibiting the use and sale of "brong" exhausts," Dedi said, as quoted in Subang Regency on Wednesday, as reported by Antara.
He explained that the circular prohibiting the use and sale of "brong" exhausts applies to all regencies/cities in West Java, down to the village, sub-district, neighborhood unit (RW), and neighborhood unit (RT) levels.
Dedi stated that the policy banning the use and sale of "brong" exhausts was issued following widespread public concern about the noise produced by motor vehicles with "brong" exhausts.
He stated that the use of "brong" exhausts is indeed uncomfortable and even contradicts driving safety.
"In my opinion, it contradicts the principles of driving comfort and safety, because each vehicle has its own exhaust standards," he said.
When a vehicle's factory-installed exhaust is modified, it violates traffic regulations and the safety of road users.
"Hopefully, everyone will realize the mistake they've made and refrain from repeating it," said Dedi.
He also emphasized the importance of maintaining a culture of orderly traffic on the road, prioritizing safety and driving comfort.
A brong exhaust is a vehicle exhaust modified without a silencer, resulting in a very loud and distorted sound, exceeding the government-set noise limit.
Using a brong exhaust violates traffic regulations and can cause public disturbances, noise pollution, and endanger safety by distracting other road users. Therefore, the user may be subject to a ticket.
