JAKARTA - Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta Rano Karno said Jakarta has a serious challenge as a metropolitan city, namely traffic jams that occur every day. Based on the study of Bappenas and Jabodetabek Urban Transportation Policy Integration (JUTPI) II in 2019, it revealed that losses due to congestion in Jabodetabek reached Rp100 trillion per year.

This figure, according to him, is equivalent to four percent of the Jabodetabek Gross Domestic Product (GDP) or six times the first phase of MRT development costs.

This was revealed by Rano in a joint rally of three pillars with the ranks of the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government (Pemprov), TNI and Polri, at the South Side Monas Cross, Gambir, Central Jakarta.

"We have memorized Jakarta traffic jams. We can't blank who's wrong with all kinds of things, but that's the reality of Jakarta," said Rano, Wednesday, August 27.

Therefore, Rano emphasized that the collaboration of all parties is very much needed as an effort to control congestion, and is supported by technological-based transformation.

In this case, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government is developing an AI-based Intelligent Traffic Control System (ITCS) which has been implemented at 65 points out of a total of 321 intersections.

"This system proves that it is able to reduce the waiting time for vehicles by 15-20 percent, as well as become the basis for monitoring vehicle and emission taxes," he said.

In addition, the DKI Provincial Government is also collaborating with Polda Metro Jaya through Mandala Quick Response which allows real-time traffic monitoring based on GEI or the Geographic Information System which is integrated with CCTV belonging to the Transportation Service.

"In the future, this system will be expanded so that more people can feel the benefits," said Rano.

Furthermore, Rano revealed that the DKI Provincial Government will expand the reach of Transjabodetabek services. Deputy Governor Rano also invited the entire community to be more disciplined in traffic and switch to using public transportation.

"Try to reduce, although it is impossible to complete within 5 or 10 years. Because for example if we want to open the Transjabodetabek route, it means that we have to open the local area. Now, this means that this is the time for us to collaborate," he added.
