South Sulawesi Police Process Report On Alleged Sexual Harassment Of UNM Chancellor

The ranks of the Directorate of Special Criminal Investigation (Ditreskrimsus) of the South Sulawesi Police have begun to process the report of a female lecturer at the Makassar State University (UNM) with the initials QD who reported the Chancellor of UNM Prof. Karta Jayadi regarding alleged verbal sexual harassment.

"We received the report yesterday at Sub-Directorate V Tipidsiber Ditreskrimsus. Then we have also communicated with the reported party (Prof Karta Jayadi)," said Head of Sub-Directorate 5 Tipidsiber of the South Sulawesi Regional Police, Kompol Bayu Wicaksono, to reporters quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, August 27.

For the next step, said the former Head of Criminal Investigation Unit of the Bulukumba Police, the plan is that the reporter will be asked for information regarding the case.

"From the reporting party, we are scheduled to be (examined) possibly tomorrow. Our Head of Unit has communicated with the reporter and the schedule has been determined here (South Sulawesi Police Office)," he said.

When asked when the agenda for the summons of the reported UNM Chancellor Karta Jayadi to undergo an examination, he admitted that he had not scheduled it.

"Not yet, later (called). Everything must be (called), later we will conduct an examination," he said in response to questions from the media crew.

Regarding the reporting report against the reported party, Bayu continued, it relates to Law number 1 of 2024 concerning Electronic Information and Transactions or ITE.

"Yesterday what we received was related to ITE. It reads related to the ITE Law, so he ran to us. From his report, it was also attached with some evidence of conversation (WhatsApp)," he explained.

Asked whether there was an element of pornography or whether the alleged verbal sexual harassment was carried out by the reported party, Bayu stated, currently it is only an initial examination and no further investigation has been carried out, but it will still be developed later.

"Not yet (investigated), we will do it later. This is first (initial examination), taking information from the reporting party, we will investigate it there. (About witnesses) experts must (involved). There are criminal experts and ITE," he said.

Asked whether the reported party had reported back on the alleged defamation, he said, had not yet received an official report. However, his party does not yet know whether the reported party has reported it to the Integrated Police Service Center or SPKT.

"For the time being, we have not (received the report), later we will coordinate with the SPKT, whether it has been sent to the Ditreskrimsus or not," he added.

UNM Chancellor Karta Jayadi is reported to have reported back QD lecturers through his legal adviser Jamil Misbach on charges of defamation with the ITE Law at the South Sulawesi Regional Police. The reason is because there is no reply to the clarification after the person concerned is summoned.

"Because he did not want to clarify the allegations he made, the UNM Chancellor reported that he was defaming the South Sulawesi Regional Police," Jamil told reporters.

Previously, a QD lecturer reported the UNM Chancellor for alleged verbal sexual harassment. A number of evidences of conversations on the WhatsApp application allegedly nasty to him have been prepared. The alleged harassment conversation took place since 2022-2024, including an invitation to the hotel he had stored.

In addition to reporting to the South Sulawesi Regional Police, the complainant has also made a report to the Inspectorate General of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia for further processing related to alleged violations of ASN ethics.
