Jordanian Army Intercepts Captagon Drug Smuggling Using Flying Balloons On The Border

JAKARTA - Jordanian soldiers thwarted drug smuggling attempts using flying balloons into the country's eastern military zone.

State news agency Petra was quoted as saying via AN, Tuesday, August 26, reported that the drug delivery activity was detected by a border guard unit in close cooperation with the Jordanian security agency and anti-narcotics department.

The balloons were tracked down and lowered when they entered the Jordanian territory. Meanwhile, evidence of drugs was confiscated and handed over to the relevant authorities for further investigation.

West anti-narcotic officials say that Jordan is a transit area for countries in the Middle East for captagon-type drugs, an addictive amphetamine-like stimulant that has been mass-produced in Syria for years.

Jordan and Syria agreed in January 2025 to form a joint security committee to secure borders from smuggling combat weapons, drugs, and prevent the rise of Daesh militants.
