JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta Environmental Service (LH) officers cleaned up the remaining garbage from holding a demonstration in front of the DPR building and its surroundings which took place on Monday, August 25.
As of Tuesday, August 26 in the morning, the total waste collected was 18.72 tons. The cleaning operation was carried out after the masses dispersed.
The total waste transported reaches 85 cubic meters or the equivalent of 18.72 tons. Waste is dominated by inorganic materials, such as banners, plastic bottles, and poster remains.
"Our principle is simple. Demonstration rights are allowed, but citizens' rights to the clean environment must also be fulfilled. The team came down on time so that this morning everything was clean," Asep said in his statement, Tuesday, August 26.
Cleaning operations are concentrated in two locations, namely around the DPR/MPR building which includes Jalan Pemuda Senayan, Jalan Pejompongan, to Tanah Abang, as well as the Gambir area on Jalan Medan Merdeka Barat and Timur.
"This is not a matter of politics, but a matter of basic service. Sidewalks and roads must be clean for pedestrians and motorists the next day," said Asep.

In the cleaning operation, the DKI LH Service deployed 150 cleaning personnel from the Central Jakarta LH Sub-dept. PJLP and 100 PPSU personnel from Gelora Village and Keluran Bendungan Hilir and supported by 12 road sweepers or mechanical road sweepers, 3 mini dump trucks, and 10 trucks carrying inorganic waste.
According to Asep, this cleaning operation was carried out in a short time. Since 2023, standard protocols have been implemented, namely location monitoring, fleet preparation, and team launch as soon as the masses disperse.
"We have a tight timeline. Maximum at 05.00 am, everything must be clean. Thank God the conditions are normal this morning," he said.
Furthermore, Asep hopes that the public will have more awareness to manage waste in every mass activity to reduce the burden on officers and the environment.
"Gathering is natural, but leave the place as it is. We are ready to accommodate garbage by providing trash cans," he concluded.
