Head of the DKI Jakarta Provincial Communication, Information and Statistics Agency (Diskominfotik) Budi Awaluddin regretted the actions of destroying CCTV cameras belonging to the DKI Provincial Government by demonstrators during clashes with officials in Pejompongan, Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta, yesterday.

This CCTV destruction was allegedly carried out to avoid identifying the mass demonstrations in front of the DPR RI building which ended in chaos. Budi emphasized that he would report to the police to investigate the complete destruction of CCTV.

"We will thoroughly investigate the CCTV vandalism incident in Pejompongan by coordinating with the police. The perpetrators must be processed according to the law so that they become shared learning," said Budi at DKI Jakarta City Hall, Tuesday, August 26.

The destruction of public facilities, including CCTV, is a criminal act when referring to Article 406 of the Criminal Code (KUHP).

The article states that anyone who intentionally destroys, destroys, or makes an item unusable can not be sentenced to imprisonment for a maximum of two years and eight months or is subject to a fine.

Budi emphasized that acts of destroying public facilities cannot be justified in any form, even though it was carried out by a demonstration that became the people's right in expressing their aspirations.

"We respect the right of citizens to express opinions in public as part of democracy. However, this freedom must be accompanied by a sense of responsibility," said Budi.

"CCTV plays a crucial role in monitoring field conditions, especially during incidents. Damaging this facility is tantamount to obstructing law enforcement efforts and potentially causing an unfavorable situation," he added.

For information, as a result of the disbandment of the mass action in front of the DPR RI Building by the joint apparatus repressively, a number of participants in the action, the majority of whom were students and various other elements, were successfully beaten back on Monday, August 25.

However, the masses who were chaotic actually rushed to residential areas in Tanah Abang. Several groups of students from various schools were seen in groups and resting on Jalan Purification, Tanah Abang.

Meanwhile, other groups seemed to have just arrived along the railroad tracks carrying the Red and White flag. They also shouted chants from their respective regions.

The situation around the location is getting hotter. The Jalan Pejompongan to Jalan Purification Raya was completely paralyzed due to clashes between the masses and officers that occurred until the evening.

The impact of the clashes was also felt by a number of public facilities and residents' businesses. Pejompongan gas station closed its operations and it looked dark. Many traders on Jalan Purification chose to close their place of business because they were worried that conditions would not be conducive.
