Appointed By Prabowo, Supreme Court Justice Suharto Officially As Deputy Chair Of The Supreme Court For Judicial Affairs

JAKARTA - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto appointed Supreme Court Justice Suharto as Deputy Supreme Court for Judicial Affairs at the swearing/promise ceremony that took place at the State Palace, Jakarta, Monday, August 25.

Suharto's appointment was based on Presidential Decree Number 71P of 2025 concerning the Dismissal with Respect the Deputy Chairperson of the Supreme Court for Non-Judicial Affairs and the Appointment of Deputy Chairpersons of the Supreme Court for Judicial Affairs.

"By Allah, I swear that I will fulfill the obligations of the Deputy Chief Justice of the Supreme Court for Judicial Affairs as well as possible and fairly, uphold the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia and carry out all laws and regulations as straight as possible according to the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia and serve the homeland and nation," Suharto said as quoted by ANTARA when reading the oath before President Prabowo.

Then, the series of ceremonies continued with the signing ceremony by Suharto which was witnessed directly by President Prabowo.

It is known that Suharto was elected as Deputy MA for Judicial Affairs after obtaining the most votes in the one-round election at the Special Plenary Session at the MA Building, Jakarta, Thursday, July 10.

Suharto, who previously served as Deputy Chair of the Supreme Court for Non-Judicial Affairs, received 25 votes out of a total of 33 valid votes. He outperformed another candidate, namely Supreme Court Justice Surya Jaya, who received eight votes.

The election for the Deputy Chairperson of the Supreme Court for Judicial Affairs was attended by 39 people out of a total of 41 Supreme Court justices. The other two Supreme Court justices are known to have been unable to attend due to illness.

Of the 39 Supreme Court justices present, only two were willing to be nominated as Deputy Chairs of the Supreme Court for Judicial Affairs, namely Supreme Court Justices Suharto and Surya Jaya.

After voting, the majority of Supreme Court justices voted for Suharto (25 votes). Meanwhile, Surya Jaya received eight votes, while the other six votes were invalid.

At that time, Suharto said he was ready to become the reliably Supreme Court navigator.

"We can be conjectured as the navigator, observing the weather, observing the atmosphere for how this large MA ship can run as well as possible to achieve the vision and mission that has been launched," Suharto said.

As Deputy Chairman of the Judicial Division, Suharto said that he would assist the Chairman of the Supreme Court Sunarto in judicial technical matters and would coordinate several head of the case room in the Supreme Court.

"So, the captain is still His Excellency the Chairman of the Supreme Court. We, and later maybe assisted by Non-Judicial Representatives and other leaders, will support and assist and support the policy line of His Majesty, the Chairman of the Supreme Court," he said.
