JAKARTA - Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, Arrmanatha Nasir, emphasized that the Forum for East Asia and Latin America Cooperation (FEALAC) must be able to be at the forefront of multilateral reforms, proposing three strategies to strengthen the forum while attending the "10th FEALAC Foreign Ministers Meeting" in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.

Deputy Foreign Minister Tata said, during his 25 years of existence, FEALAC has developed into a stronger, more dynamic and influential organization amidst uncertain global conditions.

"Amid the erosion of trust in multilateralism, the world also needs forums between regions such as FEALAC," said Deputy Foreign Minister Tata in a statement from the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Saturday, August 23.

Furthermore, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Tata proposed three strategies to strengthen FEALAC in the midst of current global conditions. First, strengthen the framework of the FEALAC institution. Second, strengthen the sense of ownership in the common goal of FEALAC. Third, increase the relevance of FEALAC for the community.

"Indonesia continues to be committed to strengthening inter-regional relations, deepening people-to-people connection, and maximizing various FEALAC initiatives, so that it has a real impact on the community of member countries and the global community," said Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Tata.

The meeting, which carries the theme "25 Years and beyond: Vision for East Asia and Latin America", produced a "Lawbaatar Declaration" document containing the future vision of FEALAC to improve the visibility of FEALAC, strengthen the FEALAC institutional framework, support for UN reforms, principles in the UN Charter, and multilateralism, as well as strengthening cooperation in the fields of climate change and SDGs.

Coinciding with the 25th anniversary of FEALAC and the 80th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs emphasized that FEALAC must be able to be at the forefront of multilateral reforms, including the full implementation of Pact of the Future.

For this reason, the Ulaanbaatar Declaration, which is the issued document 10th of FEALAC FMM, affirms its commitment to upholding the multilateralism and international law system.

The Indonesian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs also proposed a FEALAC T-shirt meeting in New York to accelerate discussions and dialogue on UN reforms.

This meeting was attended by representatives from 32 FEALAC member countries in East Asia and Latin America as well as representatives of the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (UN ECLAC), United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UN ESCAP), and FEALAC Cyber Secretariat.

FEALAC is a forum formed in 1999 to encourage dialogue and cooperation in various fields including politics, economy, social-culture, science and technology, and the environment, between East Asia and Latin America. FEALAC consists of 36 countries, consisting of 16 East Asian countries (including Indonesia) and 20 Latin American countries.
