After 2 Days of Free Remission, Repeat Burglary Offender in Bengkulu Arrested Again

JAKARTA - The Bengkulu City Police have again arrested suspect RD (26), who was recently released after receiving a remission commemorating the 80th anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia, for a similar alleged theft case.

Suspect RD was arrested for burglary and theft in Pematang Gubernur Village, Muara Bangkahulu District, Bengkulu City on August 19, 2025.

"The perpetrator is a repeat offender in a similar case who recently completed his sentence on August 17, 2025. However, just two days later, he committed another aggravated theft," said Muara Bangkahulu Police Chief, AKP Muhammad Taslim, in Bengkulu City on Thursday, as quoted by Antara.

He stated that the suspect had been arrested seven times for aggravated money laundering, two of which were by Muara Bangkahulu Police officers.

Taslim explained the chronology of the incident: the suspect entered the victim's house by breaking a window with a knife, then made off with two cell phones and Rp 700,000 in cash.

He said that on August 20, 2025, police received a report from residents regarding a suspicious man on Jalan WR. Supratman and arrested the suspect without resistance.

For his actions, the suspect was charged under Article 363 paragraph (1) points 3 and 5 of the Criminal Code concerning aggravated theft, which carries a maximum sentence of seven years in prison.

"This case has caught our attention because the perpetrator, a repeat offender who had just been released, has re-committed a crime. We continue to remind the public to be more vigilant in guarding their homes and surrounding areas," he explained.

He also said that the suspect committed the theft to meet his daily needs after being released from the Malabero Detention Center in Bengkulu.

"Because the suspect lives alone in Bengkulu City because both of his parents have died and his relatives are outside the city," he said.
