A total of 560 inmates from all levels at the Class IIA Bogor Prison, Paledang, Central Bogor District, Bogor City, received a number of remissions in the context of the 80th Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia, August 17.

The Mayor of Bogor, Dedie A. Rachim and his deputy, Jenal Mutaqin, accompanied by the Head of the Class IIA Bogor Prison, Muchamad Mulyana symbolically submitted a general remission letter, decade remission, and reduced general criminal period as well as a decade reduced sentence for inmates at the Bogor Class IIA Prison.

In his remarks, Bogor Mayor Dedie A. Rachim read out a speech from the Minister of Immigration and Corrections (Menimipas), Agus Andrianto.

Dedie Rachim said this had become a tradition when celebrating independence's anniversary in the government's remission program for the inmates.

"So those who have met certain requirements are then given remissions or reductions from a total criminal period of at least 6 months, we give a letter of granting remission from the government. So that those who are in the process of undergoing confinement in prisons behave well and meet certain requirements are given remissions," he said.

Dedie Rachim hopes that in the future, after serving a criminal period, the inmates who undergo the process can be even better and ready when they return to society.

At the same location, the Head of Class IIA Prison, Muchamad Mulyana, said that out of a total of 560 people who received remission, 13 of them were immediately released, because they had finished serving their criminal period.

"Hopefully when they are free they don't repeat mistakes that have previously been made," he said.

Turur was present representatives of Forkopimwil and Forkopimda who witnessed the granting of remissions.
