One Poso Earthquake Victim Dies In Hospital

PALU - The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) confirmed that one earthquake victim in Poso Regency, Central Sulawesi, died while undergoing intensive care at the Poso Hospital.

"Yes, that's right, the victim died on behalf of Katrin Kande, a female resident of Masani Village, Poso Pesisir District," said Poso Sofyan, Regional Disaster Management Officer (BPBD) as reported by ANTARA, Monday, August 18.

From the reports received, Katrin was injured as a result of being crushed by the rubble of the GKST Elin church building, Masani Village, which was rocked by a magnitude 5.8 earthquake on Sunday (17/8).

The victim breathed his last in the ICU room of the Poso Hospital at 22.30 WITA, Sunday, August 17, after receiving intensive care, as a result of his injuries.

The body of the deceased has been taken to the funeral home for burial before being buried.

"Aftershocks still often occur, we urge people not to panic. It is better to avoid activities near buildings that are damaged or cracked due to the earthquake," he said.

According to data released by the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), as of Monday (18/8) morning at 08.00 WITA, aftershocks occurred 57 times.

Temporary data from the BPBD Poso rapid study showed that about 37 housing units in the district were damaged due to the impact of an earthquake with a magnitude of 5.8 with a depth of 10 kilometers.
