In Front Of Prabowo, Puan Affirms DPR Will Reprimand Ministers Whose Performance Is Not In Line With The President

JAKARTA - Chairman of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, opened the First Session Period of the 2025 '2026 Session Year in a plenary meeting to read the financial note attended by President Prabowo Subianto. In her opening speech, Puan emphasized that she would reprimand the minister whose performance was not in line with the President.

President Prabowo Subianto was also present to submit an introduction to the State Budget Bill for Fiscal Year 2026 along with financial notes and other supporting documents to the DPR at the Nusantara Building, Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Friday, August 15.

Initially, Puan reported that throughout the first year of the trial, the DPR discussed various strategic issues that determine the direction of the nation's future.

"The opening of this session marks the start of the second year of the DPR RI's 2024 period of service. Throughout the session of the first year, we are faced with fundamental issues and strategic challenges that will determine the direction and quality of Indonesia's development in the future," said Puan in a speech. the opening of the DPR session.

Puan emphasized that these challenges are not just administrative work, but are related to the most basic things in state life that must be found solutions immediately.

"The problems and challenges that we must solve are not administrative work, but homework related to the most basic things in state life: social justice, people's welfare, equitable development, and strengthening national sovereignty," said the former Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture.

Puan added that different approaches between government regimes are normal and even needed, as long as the goals do not change.

"Every government will bring a different approach, with a different way of thinking, working, and way of leading. That difference is a necessity. The situation and condition of the nation and state have also changed, so the development approach must answer the reality of its time," said Puan.

"One thing that must not change is: the ultimate goal is that the people must live a more decent, more prosperous, and more dignified life. Whatever the style of leadership, what is considered to be a real result for the people," he added.

Entering the second year of service, Puan said the DPR took momentum to strengthen the direction of state policy. He ensured that the DPR was ready to carry out its duties and functions, including in the field of supervision.

"On this auspicious occasion, we convey to the President that the DPR RI is through the completeness of the council, commissions, and existing agencies carrying out supervisory tasks constitutionally, objectively, critically, and responsibly," said Puan.

Even directly in front of Prabowo, Puan said the DPR would reprimand ministers or heads of institutions who were deemed not to perform in their work, including not showing performance in line with the president's policies or vision and missions.

"So, if there are assistants of the President who do not show performance as expected in carrying out the President's vision and policy, then with all due respect, allow us to convey political warnings openly, constructively, constitutionally, without causing noise and being based on mutual respect in the meetings of the Council of Representatives (AKD)", he said to applause from members of the council.

"So that the President's vision and mission in AstaCita can be carried out well in realizing welfare and social justice," continued the chairman of the PDIP DPP.

Puan also emphasized that the supervision of the DPR is not just a routine. According to Puan, supervision needs to be carried out as a kind of checks and balances in the government.

"This is part of a healthy check and balance mechanism in democracy, as well as our accountability, the DPR RI, to the people. The supervisory function of the DPR RI is not just a routine, but part of a constitutional commitment. If it is not monitored, you could forget the direction. If you are not reminded, you can walk alone," he concluded.
