Soetarmi explained that the case began in early July 2024 when the defendant met the victim witness, Ramlan Badawi, at Halim Perdanakusuma Airport in Jakarta.
Defendant Nursanti then convinced the victim to cooperate in her nickel mining business in Morowali Regency. However, she was later suspected of defrauding the victim.
Using various tricks, including showing a fake account balance of IDR 24 billion, the defendant managed to persuade the victim to hand over the money in installments totaling over IDR 3.1 billion.
Instead of using the money for mining operations, the defendant used it for his personal interests, including financing his candidacy for Regent in Sinjai Regency.
"In addition to imposing a prison sentence, the judge also ordered evidence in the form of a BCA account statement in the name of Sopian to be attached to the case file. The defendant was also ordered to pay court costs of IDR 5,000," Soetarmi added.
Currently, the South Sulawesi High Prosecutor's Office's prosecutor team is still waiting for the defendant's legal counsel to decide whether to appeal or accept the verdict, as the panel of judges has given them 14 days to consider the matter.
