JAKARTA - The Gaza Strip will be managed by 15 Palestinian technocrats or professionals under the supervision of the Palestinian Authority (PA) if a ceasefire is reached, the Egyptian Foreign Minister said.
"The government in Gaza will be run by 15 Palestinian technocrats under the supervision of PA for a temporary period of six months, with an emphasis on administrative unity between Gaza and the West Bank," Badr Abdelatty said at a press conference in Cairo, as quoted by the Al-Ahram state-owned newspaper on Wednesday, August 13.
However, the senior diplomat did not provide further details.
The Hamas delegation arrived in Cairo on Tuesday (13/8) to negotiate with Egyptian officials on a 60-day ceasefire proposal in Gaza. The discussion comes as Israel continues its gradual re-income strategy approved by its Security Cabinet last week.
"The main goal is to return to the initial proposal, namely a 60-day ceasefire, accompanied by the release of several Palestinian hostages and detainees, as well as the entry of humanitarian and medical aid to Gaza without a hitch or condition," Abdelatty said.
According to Israeli media, the proposal proposes a 60-day ceasefire, in which 10 surviving Israeli hostages will be released in two stages, and the bodies of 18 other hostages will be handed over in three stages, in exchange for the release of a number of Palestinian prisoners and the entry of humanitarian aid into the region.
