JAMBI - The divorce case in Jambi City was classified as high, namely 852 cases in the period January to August 2025. Jambi Religious Court Judge Zulkifli Abu said there were 852 divorce cases that had been filed as of August 2025 and this figure was classified as high.

Based on data from the Jambi Religious Court, it was stated that of the total 852 divorce cases handled, there were 185 divorce cases and 667 divorce cases.

Meanwhile, the divorces that have been decided are 625 cases, including 124 divorces and 501 divorce cases that have been decided.

He explained that divorce is a divorce request filed by the husband, while divorce is filed by the wife.

According to him, this shows that women tend to take more initiatives to end marriage than men.

He said continuous disputes and quarrels were the most factors in divorce with a total of 466 cases, then one of the parties left the second most, namely 33 cases, followed by economic factors as many as 30 cases.

"The causes of divorce vary and there are many more, but we not only accept the lawsuit of the husband or wife who will divorce and grant the lawsuit, but there are also those who have been reconciled and can reconcile," said Zulkifli, quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, August 13.

He said more divorces occurred at the age of under 50, besides that there were also ages 60 years and over but the percentage was relatively small.

He hopes that the Jambi City Government can play an active role in reducing divorce rates in the local area in order to create a more harmonious and stable family.

The government has a very crucial role, according to him, in educating and protecting the public about the impact of divorce, especially vulnerable groups such as women and children.

"One form of implementation is to allocate a special budget for legal counseling activities through the Legal Section," he said.

So far, he said, counseling activities do not yet exist and he hopes that in the future it can be realized through cross-agency cooperation, such as the Religious Court, District Court, Police or Prosecutor's Office.
