JAKARTA - Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia Sugiono assessed the importance of intellectual property (KI) for achieving Indonesia's national goals.

He expressed this when receiving a visit from the Director General World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Daren Tang as well as signing a collaboration at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Office, Jakarta on Tuesday.

In a meeting that was a continuation of the meeting in Geneva, Switzerland last February, Foreign Ministers Sugiono and Tang discussed the development of the innovation ecosystem in Indonesia as well as opportunities for the use of KI to encourage national economic growth.

Meanwhile, Tang expressed his appreciation for Indonesia's progress in building an inclusive KI ecosystem, to its use for the creative economy, industry and MSME sectors.

On this occasion, Tang also emphasized WIPO's readiness to support Indonesia through training, technical assistance, and cooperation to carry out concrete programs.

Both parties agreed to strengthen Indonesia-WIPO collaboration through various strategic initiatives, including the development of human resource capacity, promotion of innovation, and increasing KI literacy in the community.

On the sidelines of the meeting, Foreign Minister Sugiono witnessed the signing of a Letter of Intent on IP Training for Diplomats.
