Bali Governor Makes TPA Suwung Taman Kota After All Waste Is Processed

Bali Governor Wayan Koster said the Suwung TPA land would be used as a city park after all the waste was processed into electrical energy.

"If it's already running (distortion processing), then the garbage there runs out, then we will organize it into a city park," said Koster in Denpasar, Tuesday, August 12.

Governor Koster said that some of the 32 hectares of land would be transformed into city parks to make them neat and useful as open sports spaces, so he denied all hoaxes for development plans in the area.

He explained that the Suwung TPA used to be an empty land that had begun to be used as a land for the Denpasar and Badung regional waste disposal in the 1980s, until finally the area developed into an urban area to investment.

The decision of the Bali Provincial Government to limit until later closing the Suwung TPA is not due to the pressure of strategic investment in the vicinity, but because the 35 meter high mountain of garbage is no longer worth maintaining.

"I'm ashamed as a tourist area in a downtown place, how come there are piles of garbage, it's not good, even without being ordered by the Minister of Environment, I've said it's not feasible, it just takes time," he said.

Now that the Bali Provincial Government does not want to throw responsibilities at Denpasar or Badung, he chooses to work together under the control of the province to deal with waste problems.

However, if you rely solely on 4,700 modern Teba, TPS3R, and TPST, which are designed as an initial solution, it estimates that it will not be able to solve all waste problems, so an incenter technology is needed to process waste into electrical energy.

"It has been prepared by the Minister (Minister of Environment) but it takes time, waiting for a new Presidential Decree, yesterday the Coordinating Minister for Food said hopefully it will be finished next week," said Koster.

"When it is finished, the administrative process needs a process of 6 months, after that it will start construction, the earliest in 2026 and it will take 1.5 years, so maybe only be able to operate in mid-2027 at the earliest," he continued.

The processing process with its own incentor will be found another location, but you have to be patient because the Bali Provincial Government can only use technology after receiving a legal umbrella from the central government.

If Suwung TPA waste wants to be used as fuel for electrical energy, it is necessary to cooperate with PLN as its fuel buyer, while the preparation of technology is not budgeted by the central government but investment.

"If the new Presidential Decree invests around Rp. 2 trillion (processes) at least 1,000 tons of waste per day, the land is prepared by the regional government for 5 hectares, there are provisions, so if it has been done, the waste will be done," he said.
